Annual CO₂ emissions & tree-offset method

1) Annual CO₂ emissions

Calculate total CO₂ emitted by the aircraft each year based on operating hours and fuel burn.

Total CO₂ (kg/year) =
Flight Hours per Year × ( Fuel Burn (L/hr) × CO₂ per Litre (kg/L) )
CO₂ per litre of unleaded fuel2.31 kg CO₂ / L
Fuel density (reference)0.78 kg / L

Note: Density shown for reference; the emissions formula already uses the per-litre CO₂ factor directly.

2) Trees required (per-decade basis)

Estimate the number of trees needed to offset the annual CO₂, expressed over a decade of sequestration.

Trees Required =
( Annual CO₂ (kg) ÷ CO₂ absorbed per tree (kg/tree/year) ) × 0.1
CO₂ absorbed per mature tree21 kg CO₂ / tree / year
Decade factor0.1

The 0.1 factor represents one decade of an assumed 100-year tree lifespan (i.e., offsets calculated per decade).

Methodology aligned to FlyOnE internal sustainability reporting. Values are indicative and may vary with aircraft, fuel, and forestry assumptions.
